Our history and tradition

The history of Mostostal Warszawa

The history of Mostostal Warszawa begins in spring of 1945 with the founding of a new enterprise aimed to support the country's efforts to recover from war damage. The key staff potential of the organization built from the scratch comprised the engineers and employees of one of the most renowned companies of the pre-war Poland – Towarzystwo Przemysłu Metalowego Konstanty Rudzki i Spółka. The rich history of the enterprise goes back to the turn of the XIX century and is overfilled with numerous significant accomplishments recognized as the milestones of the development of Polish engineering solutions.

During its long-term activity (1880-1939), the Warsaw-based company erected several hundreds of bridge structures across Poland and Russia, including several dozens of enormous passages through the largest rivers of Asia on the main railroads crossing the Asian continent. In Poland, the engineers of "Rudzki" erected bridge structures in Dęblin, Modlin, Puławy, Płock, Włocławek, and the "third bridge" in Warsaw, later named after Prince Józef Poniatowski.

The newly established Mostostal began its first project within just three weeks following the end of the Second World War. It consisted in the reconstruction of the Prince J. Poniatowski Bridge in Warsaw. During the following years, the Company was in charge of building the majority of road passages in the capital city (excluding the North Bridge) as well as numerous railway and car bridges across the country.

The persons who responsible for establishing the new company were three well- experienced specialists associated with Towarzystwo Przemysłu Metalowego Konstanty Rudzki i Spółka. Józej Dangiel was the Managing Director, Cezary Lubiński – the Technical Director and Romuald Gołębiowski held the Sales Administration Director position. These were the founders of the Company's future achievements.

In the postwar years, Mostostal Warszawa participated in the construction of numerous key industrial projects of the era – the cement plant located in the south-eastern Poland, the steel processing plants in Nowa Huta, Stalowa Wola and Warsaw, the nitirc acid processing facilities in Puławy, the refinery in Płock, the chemical plants in Włocławek and Bydgoszcz.

The Company has also completed numerous construction projects abroad – in Libya, Germany, France, Scandinavian countries and within the territory of today's Russia and Baltic states. Mostostal Warszawa was also the builder of the steel structure of the tallest building in Europe – the Commerzbank Tower in Frankfurt. The design of the 300-meter tall office building had been prepared by the world's renowned designer Sir Norman Foster.

Officially, Mostostal was established in 1945. However, the Company's ethos, technical expertise and experience derive from a lot deeper and older tradition as the core staff of the organization comprised the think-tank of engineers and distinguished specialists of one of the most outstanding company of the pre-war Poland – Towarzystwo Przemysłu Metalowego Konstanty Rudzki i Spółka.

The company registered in 1858 was headquartered in Warsaw's Solec district located between Rozbrat and Czerniakowska Streets. In the beginning, it was operating mainly as a foundry – an industrial plant making a full line of cast-iron, brass and copper goods. Konstanty Rudzki, the company's founder, main shareholder and long-time Director and President, had studied at the Parisian breeding ground for engineers - École des Arts et Manufactures – the very same technical university attended also by Gustaw Eiffel. Through the 40s and 50s of the XIX century, he was gaining experience at various steel plants of France, England and Germany as well as southern Poland.

The industrial plant founded and managed by Rudzki was going through a phase of rapid development and it was not too long before it established a strong position on the Warsaw, Polish and international markets. Although the company was making agricultural machinery, sewage pipes and other steel goods, it was the production of bridge elements and their assembly at construction sites that remained the main drive behind the company's success at the turn of the centuries. Towards the end of the century, the company employed over one thousand employees and was the third largest machinery construction enterprise in the Polish Kingdom. The Warsaw-based steel manufacturing company became one of the key beneficiaries of the intensive railway development program in the Czar's Russia.

For Rudzki, the meticulous completion of orders - the construction of bridges, including caisson and concrete works – proved helpful in acquiring new bridge contracts. In this respect, the Polish company was practically the only enterprise in the Russian Empire capable of completing such contracts. Prior to the First World War, almost 1/5 of bridge contracts within the European and Asian parts of the Russian Empire were completed by Rudzki's company.

The Company was building bridges over the Empire's main rivers: Volga, Amu-Darya, Ingada, Ussuri, Amur, Neva and many others. The Warsaw-based enterprise completed many passages under the Trans-Siberian railway project, including all the bridges alongside the section running parallel to the northern bank of the Amur River. One must admire the Polish engineers of that era for the method they applied to organize the works within the area so distant from mother plant. The steel structures provided by the Polish plant were transported by railway to Odessa of the Black Sea. Next, down the sea route through the Suez Canal to the Far East and farther to Nikolayevsk located at the mouth of the Amur River. From there, they were taken on river boats to the construction sites with some of them located as far as 2500 km away. There, the elements were finally assembled using own equipment on supports built by company's specialists.

In Poland, the engineers of "Rudzki" were building bridge facilities in Dęblin, Modlin, Puławy, Płock, Włocławek, and in Warsaw. The erection of the first entirely welded European road bridge over Słudwia River near Łowicz was an outstanding achievement within the field of engineering that drew worldwide attention. The plant was also building water turbines and steel telegraph towers. In total, during its long-term operation, the Warsaw-based company made several hundreds of bridge facilities (many of which were from 200- to 1000-meter long). The key projects included, inter alia, the 2,5-km long Amur River bridge near Khabarovsk – the longest bridge structure on the Old Continent.

The list of achievements of the Warsaw-based company is the best proof that Polish civil engineering has always been top-notch with bold ideas particularly within the fields of production organization and bridge engineering. Though Towarzystwo Przemysłu Metalowego Konstanty Rudzki i Spółka was shut down following the Second World War, its values, experience and innovative technical approach were accepted by Mostostal founded in 1945.

Museum of Warsaw Praga in Warsaw

Museum of Warsaw Praga at Targowa 50/52 St. is located next to the famous Rożycki Bazaar. It is housed in a restored complex of historic XIX century buildings which are the oldest brick houses with Jewish house of prayer of Praga district. During the works, it occurred that the historic houses were under much worse technical condition than expected. For that reason, basements had to be underpinned as well as foundations and walls of tenement house were additionally reinforced with steel components. Both buildings were linked creating a joint space in the interior of the building. There were established reinforced concrete columns which hold the ceilings. Apart from the renovation of the historic complex Mostostal Warszawa constructed newly designed, three-storey building in the yard adapted for storage and didactic functions. Frontal buildings with unique wall paintings in a house of prayer and bricked courtyard were enlisted in the registry of historic monuments and constitute the most precious objects of the tangible cultural heritage of Praga district. Therefore, the construction was conducted under the guidance of art restorer. In the scope of the contract, Mostostal Warszawa restored elevation from the nineteenth century, wooden stairway and reconstructed original roof covering. Decorative polychromies preserved in the interior of the Jewish house of prayer. These paintings, as well as brick cellars from the eighteenth-nineteenth centuries discovered during the construction, were renovated. The museum is fitted with exhibition rooms, galleries, research rooms, conference rooms, rooms for workshops and museum lessons.

Cultural and Congress Hall Jordanki in Toruń

Cultural and Congress Hall Jordanki stands out with striking futuristic appearance, expressing an extraordinary fusion of the gothic style and artistic features of modernity. The hall was designed by the world-class Spanish architect – Fernando Menis. The author used red brick and concrete in the design of the building. As a result, emerged multifunctional, four-modular hall with an intriguing shape of the building which is partly located below the ground level. Inside awaits 22 000 m2 of special space for concerts and events. The building has six floors and holds main concert hall with an orchestra pit, a mobile auditorium of 880 seats, an interior stage with the capacity of 300 seats, conference rooms, cafeteria, recording studio, technical, administration and social facilities and two-level underground garage for 185 cars. The unique character of the auditorium is determined by avant-garde solutions. For the interior walls was used a revolutionary technology called picado. It is a material made by blending cement with crushed red brick. The façade is cracked revealing the openings on the surface. Besides the aesthetic function, picado is important for the acoustics of the building which can be tuned to fit the particular music performance. The centre was inaugurated on December 12, 2015. Since then the facility has got many awards and nominees in the most prestigious competitions.

Center of Energy AGH in Cracow

Center of Energy AGH in Kraków is one of the most modern and the biggest energy research centres in Poland. The building of an area of 15 000 m2 was constructed where two tenement houses were demolished and it is located in the city centre at Czarnowiejska St. at the AGH UST University of Kraków. The center comprises of a didactic and research seven-storey building where laboratories, lecture rooms and research rooms for doctoral students are located and nine-storey research and commercial part aimed at developing innovative energy technologies and cooperation between the university and companies. In total, the facility includes 38 specialised laboratories, e.g. of quality of electric energy, energy storage batteries and fuel cells or nuclear high-temperature cogeneration. There is no such didactic and research energy centre active on a wide scale in Poland. Mostostal Warszawa commissioned the facility in 2015. The value of the work amounted to PLN 101,94 mln gross.

Tychy City Stadium in Tychy

Tychy City Stadium was founded in place of the 40-year-old stadium demolished in 2013. It is one of the most modern sports facilities of Upper Silesia. The facility, which was built on 17,000 m2 area with a cubic capacity of 141,000 m3 and a 105x68 metre playing area, meets the UEFA and FIFA standards. From the grandstands, fans can watch international sports competitions as well as European championships. The stadium can host 15 000 fans. The pitch is illuminated by 218 lamps allowing Full HD broadcasts to be made. The facility is fitted with a fitness centre, ten changing rooms, a cryo chamber, gym, and surgery. Coaches and referees are free to use two changing rooms. In addition, the facility also includes a two-level restaurant, three conference rooms, and 10 VIP boxes. Multifunctionality is one of the biggest advantages of the facility. In addition to matches, the stadium will host other events such as concerts, festivals, and sports competitions. The Tyska Galeria Sportu sports museum has its premises there. The opening of the stadium was heralded as the most important football event in Upper Silesia in 2015.

Airport in Szymany

Szymany Airport is one of the most beautiful passenger terminals in Poland, picturesquely located in the forest land of thousands of lakes. The building is refined in every inch, full of Masurian details and regional references. Building’s architecture refers also to the flying cranes. It is a modern airport, built in accordance with the European standards and is fitted for passenger and charter flights. According to the preliminary plans, the airport handles 300,000 passengers a year and after extension even half a million people. The facility will boost the economy, create new jobs and will contribute to the development of the region and turistics. The airport building has the dimensions 150x41.4 m and a maximum height of 11.92 m and cubic volume 46 100 m3. Partly, it has two levels. The Szymany Airport was built in place of the former military airport. Mostostal Warszawa was responsible not only for the construction of the passenger terminal but also for the technical infrastructure, construction of access road and passages, elements of small architecture and greenery. Mostostal Warszawa was responsible not only for the construction of the passenger terminal but also for the technical infrastructure (external installations and technical shed with an oil boiler room), access roads and driveways, parking spaces for passenger cars and buses as well as VIP parking, small architecture and greenery. The project was completed on time in almost a year. In January 2006 the airport has been granted a certificate of Civil Aviation Authority for aviation activities.

Composite bridge in Błażowa

Composite bridge in Błażowa was constructed as a part of the research project Com-bridge and its creation is a result of the cooperation of scientific and industrial consortium led by Mostostal Warszawa. The construction of the bridge was co-financed from the funds of Demonstrator+ programme carried out by National Centre of Research and Development. The role of Mostostal Warszawa was to develop technology and produce structural composite elements.The bridge in Błażowa set a world record in span length which is 21,0 m. Four beams of the bridge were made by Department of Research and Development of Mostostal Warszawa in ‘composite workshop’ at Krakowiaków Street in Warsaw. Material used to prefabricate bridge beams is made of a polymer matrix reinforced with fibres, simply called FRP composite (fibre-reinforced polymer), commonly used in aerospace, automotive and sports industries (e.g. Formula 1 cars). The production of beams was based on infusion technology, a technique that uses vacuum pressure to pull resin into dry fibres. Glass and carbon fibres allowed to create lightweight, high-strength and corrosion-resistant structure. The prefabrication had a pilot character. Deck slab was made of lightweight concrete reinforced by FRP bars which are also a unique solution. The construction of the bridge was realized by Department of Infrastructure. The bridge was commissioned at the end of last year, but official opening with the participation of the Poviat Rzeszowski authorities took place at the beginning of February 2016.

Opole Power Plant in Brzezie near Opole

The new part of the Opole Power Plant is Poland's largest infrastructural project over the past 25 years and currently the largest investment in Europe. It is also the key project currently under completion by Mostostal Warszawa.
The main infrastructural project in Poland since 1989, i.e. the construction of two power units of total power output of 1800MW for PLN 11.6 billion in Brzezie near Opole, is yet another groundbreaking project in the company's portfolio over its 70-year long operation.

In 2019, the power plant will be one of the most modern coal-fired power plants worldwide. The two units under completion – each generating 900MW of power – will be fired with hard coal. Annually, they will use up approx. 4 million tons of coal supplied from the Upper Silesia. The application of cutting-edge technologies will allow net energy production efficiency to be improved by approx. 25% against the current mark of the Polish power engineering sector. Moreover, it will significantly limit the power plant's impact on the environment, including carbon dioxide emissions cut down by approx. 25% per unit of generated power. The new units at the Opole Power Plant will make a considerable contribution to the completion of the EU's energy and climate policy latest objectives as they will replace the units built during the 60s and 70s of the XX century now being decommissioned at the other power plants

The project, with a total value in excess of PLN 11.6 million, is under completion by the consortium comprising: Rafako, Polimex-Mostostal and Mostostal Warszawa with the partnership of Alstom Power. As scheduled, Unit 5 will be commissioned in July 2018 and Unit 6 in 2019. The new units will generate up to 12.5 TWh of electric energy per annum which will cover the demand of over 4 million households.

The full range of the works comprising the construction of Units 5 and 6 at the Opole Power Plant is completed by a subsidiary - Mostostal Power Development. The framework defined under a project execution contract includes 21% of all the works. They include, inter alia, construction of a boiler room for Units 5 and 6 and boiler pressure section assembly, foundation and reinforced concrete works for gas desulfurization system, oil systems, workshops and storage rooms building, and turn-key assembly of de-slagging, compressed air, ash removal, oil and carbonization systems located outside the building. The net value of the works entrusted to the company will amount to PLN 2.249 million.

Rędziński Bridge in Wrocław

The Rędziński Bridge in Wrocław is ranked 19th largest single-pylon suspended bridge facility worldwide. It is the tallest and longest bridge across Poland. 180 000 tons of steel and 110 000 m3 of concrete were used to build it. The structure's underside ascends to reach an approximate height of 15 m above the highest navigable inland waterway. The bridge's load-bearing system comprises two separate structures, each 19.24 m wide per carriageway (3 lanes in each direction + emergency lane).

NorthGate Office Building in Warsaw

This building is the only office building erected recently in the northern part of the city's downtown area. Aside from its general office functions offering approx. 30.000 m2 of office floor, this 24-storey, A class, 87-meter high building provides service and retail space as well as a restaurant taking up approx. 1000 m2 of ground floor. Under the project, a 3-storey underground parking lot was also built, providing 310 parking spaces. The NorthGate architectural concept is based on the combination of a two-section body comprising a tower and a podium. Through the application of stone and ceramic cladding, the facade of the podium resembles that of the neighboring building. Two entrances lead into the building – one from ul. Bonifaterska and the main entrance from ul. Andersa with the latter neatly exposed by the application of glazing extending from the ground floor all the way up to the sixth floor. Aside from the architectural design, the top quality of the building is also delivered by the attention paid to details and the quality of the finishing materials applied to joint surfaces. The spacious hall is made of natural materials - marble of various colors (ranging from light beige to dark brown) and of natural wood. Owing to the wavy lines incorporated into the wooden wall cladding with varying intensity of colors, the roughness of the building's exterior has been eliminated. The several-meter high reception stands out with its modern circular design.

The office building is also fitted with a Building Management System (BMS), safety, access control, intrusion alert systems, and CCTV cameras. In case of emergency, the building is equipped with a backup power supply unit designed to handle all the safety systems, including the emergency lighting system. In addition to the centralized HVAC system, each office room provides a manual temperature setup option.

Kielce Beltway in the route E77

A contract completed at the order of the General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways was concluded on September 1, 2010. Under the project, the consortium consisting of Mostostal Warszawa and Acciona Infrastruktura extended the existing S-7 road to meet the properties of a dual motorway on a section from the Wiśniówka Junction to the Chęciny Junction.

The framework of the works included:
- Extension of the existing Kielce Beltway (from km 538+800 to km 561+661) to the parameters of a complete S 2/2 motorway (target road profile 2x3 m – extra space was reserved for a third lane);
- Conversion of three junctions (Kielce South, Kielce Jaworznia and Kielce West), transverse road entrances and access roads to enable connection to the existing road;
- Conversion of the existing engineering structures and construction of new facilities (including animal passages);
- Construction of two Motorway Service Areas (MSA)- conversion of the road drainage and lighting systems and technical infrastructure;
- Demolition of enclosed structures interfering with the project;
- Construction of environmental protection devices.

The project includes the construction of a 22.8-kilometer motorway section, 3 road junctions, 86 engineering structures – including bridges, overpasses, culverts, pedestrian crossings, animal passages and accompanying network infrastructures. Kostomłoty Junction – the largest road junction across the province and one of the largest junctions in Poland, connecting the S-7 Motorway with State Road No. 74, serves as one of the elements of the project under completion. Special attention should be paid to the construction of the largest animal passage in the Świętokrzyskie Province – facility PZ-15. The applied structure is an arc double-chamber soil-shell type of structure. This is why the passage is comfortable for its users and attractive in esthetic terms. Owing to the flora covering the passage, it fits the adjacent area.

The Kielce Beltway is the largest road contract of the Świętokrzyskie Province with its gross value amounting to PLN 647 million.

Central Department of Water in Warsaw

Central Department of Water is the oldest of the three water treatment plants of the capital city. In 1876, on the initiative of the President of Warsaw – Sokrates Starynkiewicz, an agreement was entered into with William Lindley for the execution of a project involving the water supply and sewage systems for Warsaw. The project was completed by his sons, Willilam Heerlein and Joseph Lindley. The initial supply of water to Warsaw households began on July 3, 1886. Over the years, the "Warsaw Filters", as the plant is commonly referred to by the residents of Warsaw, has adapted new water treatment technologies. The most recent of them – indirect ozonization and activated carbon filtration – is introduced through a facility designed and completed by the consortium of Mostostal Warszawa SA, Seen Technologie Sp. z o.o. and Energotechnika Sp. z o.o. The Central Department of Water is under the assistance of the monuments' restorer and, on his recommendation, the forms and materials applied in the new building go in line with the entire area. The basic materials used to build it comprise red clinker brick, sandstone and pre-oxidized copper sheet. This marvelous facade conceals a maintenance-free facility. The interior, spreading over two underground and four above ground floors, houses systems, pipelines and reinforced concrete water reservoirs taking up 52% of the surface.

TAURON ARENA Entertainment and Sports Venue in Cracow

The hall erected at Al. Pokoju and ul. Stanisława Lema in Cracow is a state-of-the-art entertainment and sports complex meeting every single international standard. The acceptance of an additional operation program provides high-level flexibility, including without limitation an option to maintain a permanent ice rink for a period of 10 months a year without interfering with other shows or sports events. The facility design has received 14 positive opinions from sport federations confirming the facility's ability to host competitions covering at least 18 disciplines such as athletics, hockey, tennis, figure skating or combat sports. In addition to strictly sport related purposes, the facility is fully adapted to mass events such as concerts, conventions and congresses, as well as other trade fair and exhibition type of events. Stands - fixed and movable – are fitted with 15 000 seats and during concerts, when the stage is located on the lower arena, the hall can hold up to 18 000 spectators. Inside the facility, there are also 27 skyboxes – i.e. spaces leased by businesses for various business projects. It also includes restaurants and wellness centers.

Tauron Arena Cracow took the first place in a prestigious competition "Construction of the Year 2014", in the sports complex category.

Konotopa Junction in Warsaw

Konotopa Junction This is the first element of the Warsaw Express Beltway aimed to divert the A2 Motorway traffic. The entire rout totaling 10.3 km in length was completed by Mostostal Warszawa with joint cooperation of the consortium made of Budimex S.A., Strabag Sp. z o.o., Warbud S.A.; however, the 1.1-kilometer long Mostostal Warszawa section was the most complicated piece of work in engineering terms. The works completed by the company included the construction of a 1.1 km section of the express road (dual 3-lane with emergency lanes) running at 2 – 6 meters below ground level in an open ditch limited by cavity walls on both sides. In addition, the framework of the works included the construction of collision-free "karo" type junctions and adjustment of the existing streets to the new transport network. Mostostal Warszawa also converted the rail siding and built a new overpass.

The value of the works completed by Mostostal Warszawa amounted to PLN 624 million. The whole contract amounted to PLN 2.2 billion and was financed by the Cohesion Fund.

Elbląg Canal in Warmia-Masuria Province

This project is located within the Elbląg District of the Warmia-Masuria Province in northern Poland and it extends through the territory of the Rychiliki, Pasłęk and Elbląg communes. The revitalized slipway sections of the Elbląg Canal between Buczyniec Sluice Gates and Całuny Slipway are located on the Miłomłyn – Drużno Lake sailing route. The project comprises the Elbląg Canal Protected Landscape Area and is located in the vicinity of the Drużno Lake Natura 2000 Area and Drużno Lake Nature Reserve. Under the regulation of the President of the Republic of Poland of January 14, 2011, the Elbląg Canal was recognized as a historic landmark. It is a monument of hydraulic engineering concept on an international scale and the only structure of this type in Poland, and probably in Europe. The slipways (Buczyniec, Kąty, Oleśnica, Jelenie, and Całuny), located away from each other, comprise five similar structures and several building permits within a single project. The construction covered all the elements: ground work, reinforced concrete, railway, hydro engineering, reinforcement, engineering, power, sanitary, road, mechanics and maintenance. The project also included the construction of a Water Management Station building, engine room, welfare facilities, and a new Historical Chamber of the Elbląg Canal.

A2 Motorway section of the A2 Stryków – Konotopa

Mostostal Warszawa was in charge of the construction of the „B” section of the A2 Stryków – Konotopa Motorway construction. The following works were completed:

  • - 16.9 km section of the motorway (dual road with two 3.75-meter wide lanes + one 2.5-meter wide emergence lane),
  • - State Road No. 70 (Łowicz – Skierniewice section); conversion works on a 4.4-kilometer long section;
  • - Nieborów Junction;
  • - Conversion of the Regional Road No. 705 on an 880-meter long section,
  • - Conversion of district roads; total length: 1120 m;
  • - Conversion of communal roads; total length approx. 4100 m;
  • - Construction of access roads (for the areas in the vicinity of the motorway); total length: 23 700 m;
  • - Construction of Motorway Service Areas (MSA Bolimów and MSA Mogiły);
  • - Construction of bridges: 9 overpasses along the motorway, 7 overpasses over the motorway, 2 bridges (over the Skierniewka and Rawka rivers), 3 over-the-motorway passages for large-size animals, 28 under-the-motorway passages for med-size and small animals;

Total quantity of concrete for all engineering facilities: 92 200 m3
Total quantity of reinforced concrete for engineering facilities: 12 300 ton

K6 Biomass Boiler-Based Exhaust Heat Recovery System at Białystok Heat & Power Plant

The project was completed through a consortium involving RadscanIntervex Polska Sp. z o.o. The heat recovery system installed at the heat and power plant is the first Polish system of this type based on humid exhaust. The system allows recovery of the energy evacuated into the air through a chimney in the form of exhaust gases, thus improving the heat output by decreasing the so-called "outlet loss". The energy recovery process consists in collecting the heat from condensed exhaust moisture and transferring it over to the heating network. The system's nominal power is 18.4 MW. The forecasted annual production of heat is 385.697 GJ.

This innovative Polish technology is successfully applied across waste combustion plants and biomass-fired boilers in Scandinavia. The EHR-based heat will allow reduction of the current consumption of coal in boilers during winter. This, in turn, will cause further reduction of CO2 emissions. The estimated reduction of CO2 emissions amounts to 20 000 tons per year.

When back in 2006 I started to work in the newly created research and development department of Mostostal it consisted of 3 people, one of whom was me. As the time passed and I gained more experience, I took up the position of the chief research and development specialist. Today, in the ninth year of work for Mostostal as the head of the research and development department I am responsible for the work of the 18-person multidisciplinary team. This requires constant broadening of technical knowledge covering all areas of construction and also involves meeting a lot of interesting people in the scientific world and innovators of companies from other EU countries.

During the last year of my studies at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Białystok, I applied for the position of documentation specialist at the Brama Mazur shopping centre construction site in Ełk. I remember when 10 years ago I came to work at Mostostal beginning my professional adventure with the company as a senior inspector and translator. I was working in the management board office as a translator and assistant. To make the most of my education, I completed a public relations postgraduate and I transferred to the public relations department. These were years of very interesting work!

During my 9-years of work at Mostostal, I have worked on many interesting projects, many of them at places that are of key importance to Warsaw, e.g. the reconstruction of Plac Grzybowski or the development of the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology at Warsaw University of Technology. Currently, I am working on the construction of a building for the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency in Warsaw.

At Mostostal, I am a senior production planning specialist, and my work really translates into the success of others. It is a great responsibility but also brings great satisfaction. I started my cooperation with Mostostal in 2010 as an estimator in the bidding department.

In recognition of my potential, the company asked me to start work as a construction engineer on the construction of the Acquatic Center of Recreation and Sport in Olsztyn and the Surgical Ward at the Voivodeship Hospital in Elbląg, and then as a construction manager at the Brama Mazur shopping mall construction site in Ełk. It was a transition from theory to practice. Subsequent contracts and construction projects allowed me to gain practical knowledge, confidence and learn how to manage a team. Although in reality it was not easy and simple, it quickly became apparent that the construction site is the perfect place for me.

For over 18 I've been involved in the energy construction. I started working at Mostostal Warszawa in 2011. My beginnings in the company are connected to the greatest contracts in the history of Polish energy system: construction of new power units in Opole and Jaworzno. I’m facing demanding tasks day-to-day as the President of Mostostal Power Development, a special purpose vehicle founded for the execution of Project Opole and whilst managing Energy Construction Division of Mostostal Warszawa. Provides specialized engineering services – from concept to start-up – based on the highest quality standards. The company provides solutions for both production and environmental protection which can be applied in metallurgy, power generation and other branches of industry; always in accordance with the IPPC directive.
Implementing modern technologies, the company closely cooperates with renowned research institutes, i.e. Polish Academy of Sciences, Cracow University of Technology, the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals in Gliwice. AMK Kraków offers total-scope services for investment projects from engineering design work, laboratory tests through the supply of components to the commissioning of the installation.

Mostostal Kielce SA

Specializes in manufacturing and assembly of steel structures, especially in the construction industry and industrial investments. The company produces steel structures in EXC1 to EXC4 according to the requirements of PN-EN 1090 and PN-EN ISO 9001 and the NATO standards defined in AQAP 2110. In its operation, Mostostal Kielce SA makes use of its own production plant with a capacity up to 1000 per month. The company’s strategy envisages services in the field of bridge construction and industrial investments. However, the beginnings of its operations referred to the investments in the area of cement and lime industry. Nowadays, the company realizes mainly contracts for delivery and assembly of steel structures for construction of power units in the country and abroad and flue gas cleaning installations for suppliers of modern environmental protection technologies.

Is one of the most experienced Polish companies operating in the mechanical industry. The company’s history goes back more than 50 years. Since 1998 it has been forming part of Mostostal Warszawa Capital Group. Main competences of Mostostal Płock are focused in the field of broadly defined oil&gas. Nevertheless, the company is also operating in chemical, energy and food industries. Mr. Goławski was born in 1972, by education he is a civil engineer, a graduate of the Poznań University of Technology and Technical University of Aalborg in Denmark. In 2007, he obtained the MBA title at the University of Economy in Poznań in cooperation with the Georgia State University in Atlanta. In 2010, he completed the training program Strategic Leadership Academy, organized by the ICAN INSTITUTE.
Since the beginning of his career, he has been working in the construction industry. He has been working for the Budimex Group, including as the Regional Director since 2002. In 2008, he was appointed the Director of the General Construction Division West. In 2011, as part of implementation of the strategy of diversification of the Budimex Group portfolio, he took the responsibility for developing new business areas and was appointed to the function of the Construction Director, to create the Power and Industry Construction Division. He was also a member of the Budimex S.A. Executive Committee and the company's Proxy.

born in 1978, he graduated from a Technical University of Valencia, Faculty of Civil Engineering, where he received the title of engineer specialising in transportation and urban planning. In 2003 he got master’s degree at the University of Rostock in Germany. Since the beginning of his career, he has been engaged in general contracting. Between years 2003-2006, he held the following positions: construction chief and then technical manager. Since 2006 he has been working within Acciona Group. On behalf of the Spanish company, he supervised the renovation of the national road no. 7 along the section Kiezmark – Jazowa in Poland in years 2006-2008. Mr Calabuig also coordinated multi-stage process of preparing an offer of the consortium featuring Mostostal Warszawa/Acciona Infraestrcuturas for the construction of II metro line in Warsaw (2008-2009). In the next four years, he served as Technical Director at Acciona Infraestructuras Poland Division. Since 2014 he managed Department of Control and Purchases at Mostostal Warszawa. In the following period, acting as Control and Purchases Director, he was responsible for managing process of purchases under one of the greatest contracts of the company – construction of the new power units no. 5 and 6 in the Opole Power Plant.

Mr. Szymanek was born in 1971; he is a graduate of the University of Physical Education in Warsaw with a major in coaching; he also holds the title of Master of Business Administration from the French Institute of Management. Mr. Szymanek has completed a series of specialist training sessions devoted to management, finances and human resources. For a number of years, he was involved in personnel management, where he had the opportunity of becoming acquainted with the specific nature of various industries during his work for global corporations. Between 1995 and 1999, Mr. Szymanek worked for Pepsico, where he was responsible for HR support in the operational part of the organisation. Between 1999 and 2004, he held the function of deputy personnel director for wages and employee benefits in the insurance company Commercial Union (currently Aviva). Between 2004 and 2005, he worked in Europejski Fundusz Leasingowy as the director responsible for the entire area personnel management. In 2005, Mr. Szymanek was appointed to the position of personnel director in the international logistics company FM Polska where, for six years, he was responsible for developing and shaping the human resources policy in the FM Logistic Group. Jacek Szymanek has been working for Mostostal Warszawa S.A. since September 2011; initially he was the HR Office director. Since February 2012, he has been responsible for organisational support, supervising the work of the HR, Administration, IT, OHS, R&D and Management Systems divisions. On February 3, 2012, in line with the decision of the supervisory board, Mr. Szymanek was appointed a member of the management board of Mostostal Warszawa S.A., where he is responsible for management and administration. Jacek Szymanek also performs the function of a member of the management board in Mostostal Power Development Sp. z o.o. Mostostal Kielce SA and Mostostal Płock SA.

born in 1973; he graduated from University Autónoma de Madrid where he received the title in Economy and Management in 1997. Since the beginning of his career has been with Acciona Group. Between 1997 and 2000 worked in Directorate for Administration and Finance, e.g. on the construction of Sidi Krir Thermal Power Plant in Egypt near the city of Alexandria and on the construction of King Abdullah University Hospital in Irbid, Jordan. From 2000 he fulfilled the function of Head of Administration and Finances. He held that position for six years. During this time Mr Rodríguez worked on two big infrastructure projects in Chile: Central Coastal Road Network (Red Vial Litoral, 2002-2004) and Américo Vespucio Sur Toll Road (2004-2006). In 2006 Mr Rodríguez was promoted to Director of Finances in Corporativo Acciona México, and since 2015 he occupied the function of Director of Finances in Corporativo Acciona Brasil.
On June 25, 2016, in line with the decision of the Supervisory Board of Mostostal Warszawa SA, he was appointed to the Management Board of Mostostal Warszawa SA. He is also a member of the management board of Mostostal Power Development Sp. z o.o. and a member of the supervisory board in a subsidiary of Mostostal Warszawa SA: Mostostal Płock SA, Mostostal Kielce SA and AMK Kraków SA.

Innovations Own Research and
Development Department

Innovation in business is one of the key values of Mostostal Warszawa, which is the only company in the entire construction industry in Poland which established its own research and development division almost ten years ago. The R&D division prepares innovative technologies used to strengthen the company’s competitive edge. Currently, the division has a team of 13 experienced researchers, a production facility for composite materials and an asphalt and aggregate laboratory. Mostostal Warszawa supports new technologies and not only invests in the development of the company, but also, and more importantly, invests in Polish engineering accomplishments. The research and development division cooperates with almost all significant research units in Poland and with numerous centres abroad. The company’s interests include: the application of new construction materials, energy efficiency and sustainable construction as well as communication and information technologies supporting production processes.
During its history, the research and development division has completed over thirty R&D projects co-financed within framework programmes of the European Commission and structural funds managed by state agencies. Together for the Nature The Environmental Care

Mostostal Warszawa is a socially responsible company in which the ecological awareness of companies and cooperating companies plays an important role. The company’s strategy involves limiting the negative impact on the environment. Mostostal Warszawa was one of the first construction companies in Poland (in 1999) to implement and receive Environmental Management System certification, complying with the requirements of the ISO 14001 standard. The current certificate, confirmed by an internal audit in 2014, was extended until 2018. The uniform requirements of the Environmental Management System and OHS and the OHSAS Management Systems integrated with it, as well as good practices (both pro-ecological and in the area of safety), developed over a number of years, are binding throughout the entire Capital Group. The company constantly monitors and conducts conscious management at construction sites with respect to waste, both hazardous and other than hazardous, the consumption of electric energy and water, the consumption of raw materials and the amount of discharged industrial and municipal sewage. Mostostal Warszawa is gradually getting closer to meeting this objective by the constant improvement of safety standards at construction sites and the introduction of modern security measures and organisational solutions prepared together with the company’s research and development division. The company also increases the level of the OHS culture in the organisation by involving all employees in this area, along with strict elimination of any inconsistencies with respect to OHS requirements and near-miss incidents.

Agreement for Safety in Construction

Mostostal Warszawa is an active founding member of the association “Agreement for Safety in Construction”, whose motto is “Zero Accidents” at construction sites. The agreement was established in 2010 and brings together the largest general contractors in Poland. Its objective is the complete elimination of fatal accidents at construction sites in Poland. In order to meet this objective, the association members have prepared a number of projects introducing systemic OHS solutions at construction sites throughout the entire country. One of the initiatives is the National Safety Week: the only educational project on such a large scale in Poland. Almost 40,000 employees at 358 plants and construction sites participate annually in events organised during the Safety Week.
